Scholz noted that he has talked to Putin in the past and is ready to do so again, but Russia needs to make a move to start negotiations.
Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are possible only after the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of the independent Ukrainian state. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this on Sunday, November 12, in an interview with Heilbronner Stimme.
For his part, the politician promised additional support for Kyiv in the fight against the invaders. In particular, he was asked how long Germany would be able to provide arms to Ukraine, to which he replied that Berlin was ready for a long-term war.
“Russia’s attack on Ukraine is the return of imperialism to Europe. So now is the turning point, and arms supplies will continue as long as necessary,” the chancellor said.
At the same time, Scholz indicated that he had spoken with Putin in the past and plans to hold a dialogue in the future.
“However, the negotiations require a decisive step from Russia. This step should be the withdrawal of troops,” he emphasized.
Germany, which gives Ukraine the most aid in the world after the United States and the most in Europe, plans to double it next year to 8 billion euros.
We remind you that the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection will contribute 54.3 million euros to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine.
