Cars confiscated from Latvians for drunk driving will be sent to Kherson, Kharkov and Poltava.

The Latvian government will transfer another two dozen vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine. LSM reported this on Tuesday, October 31.

It was noted that 20 units with a total market value of approximately 56 thousand euros will be shipped free of charge. These vehicles will specifically go to the Poltava First City Hospital, a medical center in Kharkov, the military city administration of Kherson and other organizations in the Kherson region.

From the end of 2022 in Latvia, driving a car while intoxicated (more than 1.5 ppm of alcohol in the blood) will result in criminal liability. One of the penalties is confiscation of the vehicle.

And at the beginning of 2023, the Seimas of Latvia supported amendments to the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine, which created the grounds for the transfer of vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukrainian ownership.

At the beginning of the summer, 66 confiscated cars were found to have been transferred by Latvia to Ukraine.
