The document “calls for an immediate, strong and sustainable humanitarian ceasefire followed by a cessation of hostilities.”
The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution calling for an “immediate, permanent and humanitarian ceasefire” to “end the war” in the Gaza Strip,” the UN website reported on Friday, October 27.
The General Assembly also called for basic necessities to be allowed into the Gaza Strip and demanded that Israel cancel the order for Gazans to move from the north of the enclave to the south.
The resolution also states the need to “urgently create a mechanism to ensure the protection of the Palestinian civilian population” and “prevent further destabilization and escalation of violence in the region.”
At the time of the vote, 120 countries were in favor, 14 were against, and 45 countries abstained. Ukraine belongs to the latter. Opponents of the resolution include the United States, Austria and Hungary.

As reported by AP, General Assembly resolutions are not binding, but reflect the opinion of the world community. The resolution was the UN’s first response to Hamas’s invasion of Israel and Israel’s operation in the Gaza Strip in response.
Let’s remember that Hamas thanked Russia and China for their support. The Islamists said they greatly appreciated help from Moscow and Beijing, particularly on the issue of the US vetoing the UN Security Council resolution.
