During the election campaign, the politician promised to stop military aid to Ukraine and criticized the sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Pro-Russian politician and leader of the Smer-SD party Robert Fico became the Prime Minister of Slovakia. Reuters reported this on October 25.
Slovak President Zuzana Caputova officially approved Fico’s candidacy and the composition of the new government after her Smer-SD party won the September 30 elections and formed a coalition with the center-left HLAS and nationalist SNS.
“Fico conducted an active election campaign, promising to stop military aid to Ukraine, make the foreign policy independent of partners from the EU and the United States, and radically protect the state’s borders from a large flow of migrants,” the agency said.
He also opposes political liberalism, the activities of non-governmental organizations and the expansion of rights for transgender people.
We remind you that Fico took the position of Prime Minister of Slovakia for the fourth time. In 2018, the politician left office amid widespread anti-corruption protests following the killing of a journalist.
