Hundreds of Ukrainians stranded in the Gaza Strip have expressed their desire to leave the region and fly to a country that will grant them asylum.
Half a thousand Ukrainians are in the Gaza Strip, with more than 300 citizens registered for evacuation from the region. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba announced this on Monday, October 23, in a marathon broadcast.
“We clearly understand the number of citizens, the problem of every citizen, who want to leave the Gaza Strip. However, many of them, unfortunately, do not have documents that provide a basis for leaving, because they remained they were there for a long time and did not update their Ukrainian documents,” he said. Kuleba.
At the same time, the head of the diplomatic department noted that the Foreign Ministry is dealing with the issue of the evacuation of Ukrainians from the dangerous territory and is calculating “all possible routes.”
“But for evacuation it is necessary that a checkpoint in Rafah, on the border with Egypt, operates,” said Kuleba.
In the Gaza Strip, more than 5,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 15,000 wounded since fighting began following the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.
337 Ukrainian citizens are expected to be evacuated from the Gaza Strip, but in fact there may be up to 500 of them in this region. This was said by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Yevgeny Korniychuk.
