The United States increased communication with Israel from the first hour after the Hamas attack.
Israel must decide for itself how and when to conduct ground operations against Hamas. John Kirby, coordinator of the White House National Security Council, announced this on Monday, October 23.
“We believe that the IDF should decide for itself how to conduct an operation. We will not dictate terms to them,” Kirby said.
He emphasized that the United States cannot predict any future Israeli operations. At the same time, Kirby noted that the United States, from the first hour after the attack by Hamas, increased communication with Israel to have information about its strategy, goals and other important aspects. He added that “this engagement is ongoing.”
Kirby added that there were several American officials with relevant experience in Israeli-led operations who were there to share their perspective.
At the same time, as Axios clarified, the United States sent a Marine general and officers to assist Israel in a ground operation against Hamas. They will advise the leadership of the Israeli armed forces during operations in the Gaza Strip.
The Marine officers sent include Lt. Gen. James Glynn, according to a senior Israeli official. He previously commanded Marine Special Operations and participated in operations against ISIS in Iraq.
Let’s remember that on October 7, Hamas militants carried out a massive rocket attack on Israel and entered its territory. In response, the Israeli army announced the start of Operation Iron Swords and daily attacks on the group’s targets in the Gaza Strip.
According to the latest data, more than 1,400 people were killed in Israel, and 4,100 victims were reported in Gaza.
