The day before, the diplomat visited Odessa. In the capital, he met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. He announced this on Twitter.
Together with Zelensky, Borrell took part in the memory of the fallen defenders. He also expressed support for those fighters who are now defending Ukraine from Russian occupiers and fighting for common European values.
Representatives of the Ukrainian authorities discussed continued EU military assistance with Borrell. The diplomat noted that Ukraine requires more opportunities and needs them faster. According to him, the European Union is preparing long-term security obligations for Ukraine.
Let us recall that in August, the head of the European Union’s foreign policy department, Josep Borrell, proposed to the EU defense ministers in the coming months, in addition to previous plans, to train another 10 thousand Ukrainian soldiers.
