In Warsaw on Sunday, October 1, thousands of people joined an opposition rally, Reuters reports.
The opposition hopes Sunday’s march will be the biggest in decades and is encouraging people to take part in the election. According to Polish media, about 600-800 thousand people gathered for the rally.
“Big changes are coming. This is a sign of Poland’s rebirth,” the opposition leader said Civic platform Donald Tusk to the crowd gathered in Warsaw’s central square.
At the same time, many waved Polish and EU flags, the agency wrote.
Tusk, the former president of the European Council, said the ruling National Conservative Party Law and Justice (PiS), led by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, could take Poland out of the EU. Tusk also called for decisive elections for the rights of minorities and women.
According to Reuters, the party in power since 2015 Law and Justice campaigned on a promise to stop migrants in Poland, calling it a matter of national security. The political force also promised to continue to bring in money to support families and the elderly.
Opinion polls show that Law and Justice (PiS) could win the election but is struggling to build a majority amid some citizens’ dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living and concerns about the erosion of democratic checks and balances.
We remind you that Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia asked Ukraine to withdraw its complaint to the World Trade Organization due to the ban on the import of agricultural products.
