President Zelensky stated this at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg.
Stoltenberg in particular stated that “Ukraine is now closer to NATO than ever before” and recalled that in order to simplify entry into the Alliance, Ukraine had the requirement for a Membership Action Plan canceled.
The Ukrainian president called the negotiations meaningful. He noted that today it was a conversation between de facto allies, and it is a matter of time when Ukraine de jure becomes a member of the Alliance.
Allies agreed that Ukraine does not need a NATO membership action plan. Stoltenberg believes that Ukraine has strong support from all NATO member countries and other countries included in the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
Zelensky and Stoltenberg also discussed strengthening Ukrainian air defenses, Russian attacks on critical infrastructure and joint weapons production.
NATO has signed contracts for the supply of ammunition to Ukraine for 2.4 billion euros. This was reported by Reuters in an article about the results of Stoltenberg’s meeting with Zelensky in Kyiv.
Of these, 1 billion are already concluded contracts. We are talking about 155-mm artillery shells and ammunition for main battle tanks.
According to the Secretary General, the Defense Industries Forum in Kyiv and the Industrial Forum in Stockholm next week will provide additional opportunities to increase production. Let us remind you that on September 28, the NATO Secretary General arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit and met with the President of Ukraine.
