The Ombudsman filed a petition for the presence of an employee of the Office of the Ombudsman at court hearings to monitor compliance with the procedural rights of participants in court proceedings.
In the case of the rape of a minor girl in Transcarpathia, the court of first instance begins a new trial. The preparatory meeting is scheduled for September 27, said Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets.
Lubinets filed a petition for the presence of an employee of the Office of the Ombudsman at court hearings to monitor compliance with procedural rights of participants in court proceedings.
If a decision is made to consider the case behind closed doors, the court must find out the opinion of the law subjects whose interests are declared to be closed proceedings regarding the petition I filed. Monitoring compliance with procedural rights in this case is ongoing, the ombudsman said in a statement.
We remind you that in 2021, in one of the villages in Transcarpathia, three teenagers raped a 14-year-old girl in the basement and filmed it. The court sentenced them to five years in prison, but released them from the punishment and imposed a probationary period of two years.
The situation received wide publicity. Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets took personal control of the case.
