This is stated in a statement by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan.
Local anti-terrorist measures continue successfully. Combat positions, military vehicles, artillery and anti-aircraft missile launchers, electronic warfare stations and other military equipment of the formations of the Armenian Armed Forces have been neutralized, the defense department in Baku reported.
Speaker of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense Anar Eyvazov said at a briefing on September 19 that the Azerbaijani army in Karabakh took control of more than 60 combat positions of Armenian forces.
The so-called Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh on the morning of September 20 stated that the capital Stepanakert (Azerbaijani name is Khankendi) and other settlements are being subjected to massive artillery, rocket attacks and airstrikes, and fighting continues along the entire length of the contact line with varying intensity.
Let us remember that Nagorno-Karabakh, a mountainous area in the South Caucasus region, is an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan. It is inhabited by ethnic Armenians who consider this territory the homeland of their ancestors.
On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “local anti-terrorism measures” in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh. The European Union, France and Germany condemned Azerbaijan’s military actions, calling on it to return to negotiations on the upcoming Karabakh with Armenia.
Armenians accuse Baku of ethnic cleansing and numerous crimes against civilians. Since December 2022, the region has been under a virtual blockade by the Azerbaijani army. In August 2023, the Armenian authorities in Stepanakert (Azerbaijani name is Khankedi) announced that famine had begun on the territory of the unrecognized republic and the first death from it had been recorded.
