The increase in buckwheat prices continued until September 2022, and then, with the arrival of new crop products, a gradual decline began, which continues to this day.
In August of this year, buckwheat in Ukraine became slightly cheaper than in February 2022, and twice as cheap as in August of last year. This was reported by the research center of the Institute of Agrarian Economics.
The analytical publication reported that in August 2023, the average consumer price for buckwheat in Ukraine decreased to 45.6 UAH/kg. This is 6.3% lower than 48.7 UAH/kg – the price level for buckwheat in February 2022, that is, at the beginning of the great war, and 2.1 times cheaper than the highest price of 96.0 UAH/kg which recorded in August 2022.
“The increase in prices for buckwheat lasted until September 2022, and then, with the arrival of new crop products, a gradual decrease began, which continues to this day and there is every hope for continuation,” said the director of the center, academician of the National Academy of Sciences Yuri Lupenko.
According to him, the dynamics of consumer prices in Ukraine correspond to forecast estimates and provide grounds for avoiding a sharp increase this year.
“Traditionally, processed and animal products, which depend more on energy factors and raw materials, have certain growth potential, while prices for vegetables and fruits are likely to continue to decrease in September and possibly in October,” added Lupenko.
Earlier it was reported that wheat prices responded to the departure of the ship from Chernomorsk.
