Warsaw is sending a signal to farmers that the embargo will apply regardless of the European Commission’s decision.
Poland’s Minister of Development and Technology Waldemar Buda on Friday signed a decree on an indefinite ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine, in particular wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower On Friday, September 15, he announced it on X (Twitter).
The minister clarified that the ban will come into effect from midnight, during the night from Friday to Saturday.
In his opinion, the decision of the European Commission not to extend the embargo on the import of Ukrainian grain is “wrong.”
“Polish peasants first and foremost!” – Buda added, thanking the Minister of Agriculture of Poland Robert Telus and the European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski, appointed under the Polish quota.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also spoke about protecting the interests of Polish farmers.
“We will not listen to Berlin or von der Leyen, Tusk or Weber. We will do this because it is in the interest of the Polish farmer,” RMF24 quoted him as saying.
It should be noted that the European Commission has removed restrictions on the import of grain from Ukraine to Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia. At the same time, from September 16 to 18, Kyiv must take effective measures to control the export of 4 groups of goods to prevent their influence on the market of neighboring EU member states.
The National Bank of Ukraine predicts a reduction in foreign exchange earnings of farmers by about $600 million by the end of the year due to the ban on food imports introduced by Eastern European countries.
