Ukrainian parents reject creative and unusual names for babies in favor of traditional ones.
Ukrainians no longer call their children Bayraktar and Javelin, but return to traditional names. This is confirmed by the list of popular names published by the Ministry of Justice, which Ukrainians called newborn children in the first half of 2023.
So, the most common names in the birth state registration of girls are: Anastasia, Victoria, Daria, Eva, Zlata, Ekaterina, Miroslava, Maria, Sofia, Solomiya.
Ukrainians often call boys Andrei, Bogdan, Vladimir, Vasily, Daniel, Ivan, Matvey, Nikolai, Alexander, Yaroslav.
The Ministry of Justice reminded that according to Article 146 of the Family Code of Ukraine, the name for the child is chosen by common consent of the parents.
If there is a dispute between the parents about the future name of the child, it can be resolved through the custody and guardianship authorities or the court.
If the child’s mother is not in an officially registered marriage, and there is no voluntary recognition of paternity, the woman can freely choose the name of the newborn child.
It can be remembered that last year Javelina, Ulpana, Mriya, Iskander, Sarmat and Hugo were popular among Ukrainian parents.
And in the first half of last year, the name Stephanie became popular, and Javelins and Bayraktars also appeared.
