The official allocated more than one million hryvnias intended for the construction of a sports complex in one of the military camps.
The military counterintelligence of the Security Service, together with the State Bureau of Investigation, liquidated the scheme of embezzlement of the defense budget during the construction of infrastructure facilities for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported on August 25 by the SBU.
It was noted that the chief engineer of the department of housing and maintenance of the military was detained in Odessa, who, according to the investigation, allocated more than one million hryvnias allocated from the budget for the construction of a sports complex in one of the camps of military in the region.
To implement the deal, he attracted the director of a local construction company.
“According to the concluded contract, the businessman must ensure all the work on the construction of a modern sports complex for Ukrainian defenders. However, the contractors did not fulfill their obligations. In particular, they did not install more than 800 m² of rubber coating and more than 50 outdoor lighting equipment,” said the security service.
At the same time, the defendants received full payment from the budget and withdrew money in the shadows and distributed it among themselves. To do this, they entered inaccurate information in financial and economic reporting and documentation.
The facts of criminal activity are confirmed by construction, technical and economic expertise.
The chief engineer of the maintenance department of the military apartment and the director of the contractor’s company were notified of suspicion under three articles of the Criminal Code.
The investigation continues, the involvement in the “scheme” of other officers of the military apartment maintenance department is being examined.
The attackers face up to 12 years in prison.
Earlier, the SBU detained businessmen who supplied defective artillery mines to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and did not fulfill the contract for nearly 270 million hryvnias.
