A large majority of respondents from the south and east also consider territorial concessions to the aggressor country unacceptable.
Demands by the Russian Federation to recognize the regions of Ukraine it occupies as Russian territories in exchange for an end to the aggression are unacceptable. This opinion is shared by more than 90% of Ukrainians. This was confirmed by the results of a survey conducted by the Foundation Democratic Initiatives named Ilko Kucheriv with the sociological service of the Razumkov Center with the support of the Matra program August 9 – 15, 2023.
At the same time, 4.7% of respondents said that such requirements are acceptable.
In addition, almost 74% of respondents called Ukraine’s possible refusal to join NATO unacceptable.
Also, 80% of respondents consider it inappropriate to reduce the number of Armed Forces of Ukraine in peacetime.
Ukrainians also consider unacceptable the need to give the Russian language the status of an official/state language in Ukraine (75%) and the rejection of the policy of decommunization (69%).
“Slightly more willing to make concessions (except for territorial ones) is shown by respondents in the south and, to a greater extent, in the east. However, even in these regions, the majority of respondents consider any concessions which is considered unacceptable,” the researchers noted.
As previously reported, the majority of Russians (75%) support the war against Ukraine.
