During the inspection of the Sakharov Center, they allegedly discovered “systematic gross and intractable violations of the law.”
The Moscow City Court decided to liquidate the human rights organization Sakharov Center, which since 1990 has been engaged in cultural, educational, social and human rights activities. This was reported by the Russian media on Friday, August 18.
The center was liquidated at the request of the Russian Ministry of Justice. It is stated in his lawsuit that during the inspection of the center they allegedly discovered “systematic gross and insurmountable violations of the law.”
Such officials consider the holding of the exhibition Andrey Sakharov – a man-time not only in Moscow, but also in regions where the center has no branches. According to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, this violates the principle of the sphere of activity.
The Andrei Sakharov Center has existed since 1990. It was created on the basis of a commission that worked to preserve the legacy of the Soviet human rights activist, dissident and physicist Andrei Sakharov.
In 2014, Russian authorities recognized the Sakharov Center as a “foreign agent”. At the end of 2022, he was fined five million rubles under the protocols for not being a “foreign agent”. In 2023, the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation declared the American organization The Andrei Sakharov Foundation “undesirable”.
Remember, on February 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the termination of agreements concluded within the framework of the Council of Europe with respect to the Russian Federation. Among them are the Charter of the Council of Europe, the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the European Convention for the Prevention of Terrorism, the European Charter of Local Self-Government, the Social Charter.
