Dmitry Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said on August 12 that the owners and captains of the ships had been warned about the threat from the Russian fleet and mine danger. Therefore, everything will happen under the supervision of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The number of merchant ships that have already registered is kept secret.
In addition, Romania plans to increase the transit of Ukrainian grain from two to four million tons per month. The Minister of Transport of Romania, Sorin Grindeanu, made such a statement after a meeting of representatives of Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, the EU and the USA in the city of Galati.
According to Grindyanu, during the talks, the parties were to reach specific agreements on resuming the export of Ukrainian grain via alternative routes through the Danube ports.
However, the Romanian minister stressed that for this, measures should first be taken to increase the capacity of the Sulina Canal, which connects the Danube and the Black Sea.
Earlier this week, Pletenchuk said the Russians were afraid to go to the Black Sea and there was no blockade of Danube ports.
What we have now is not a complete blockade. In order to block navigation, it is necessary to bring a very powerful composition of ships into the sea, and block the space so that no one passes. Or inflict fire damage. And now the invaders are afraid to go to sea, they don’t feel very comfortable even in Sevastopol,” the representative noted.
Pletenchuk added that the Russians are still intimidating and threatening the crews of foreign ships. However, they do not dare to attack civilian ships flying the flags of different countries, in particular, China and Turkey.
The speaker of the Naval Forces emphasized that shipping off the Ukrainian coast is operating as normal.
