The Georgian side expressed “deep concern” in connection with the statement of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and called this “action an extreme form of aggravation of diplomatic relations.” Tbilisi hopes that Kyiv will reconsider its decision.
Tbilisi also claims that the decision of the European Court of Human Rights “confirmed the high standards set by the state to protect Saakashvili’s rights.” The Ukrainian side announced its readiness to “immediately discuss” the issue of transporting Saakashvili to Ukraine for treatment and care.
This action is an extreme form of aggravation of diplomatic relations, and it is sad that official Kyiv is resorting to this step against a friendly state and its people, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Recall that on July 3, President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Georgia to transfer Saakashvili to Ukraine. On Monday, a video of Saakashvili’s interrogation appeared, showing his unhealthy appearance. Saakashvili is currently in a Tbilisi clinic.
