The European Commissioner has already agreed with the Ukrainian government and industry, who shared their experience and know.
Next week, the European Union’s defense minister will make negotiations with the creation of “drone walls” on the EU eastern border. This is said by the European Commissioner for Defense and Cosmos Andryus Cubilyus, Reuters reports.
The European Commissioner noted that some European Union countries discussed such an idea before invading Russia’s drones to Poland’s airspace last week, and the EU Executive Body wanted to quickly realize this concept in reality.
Analysts and officials said Russia’s attack has revealed Gaps to Europe and NATO’s ability to defend themselves from drones, though many of them managed to collapse.
“We want to move forward with a very, very intensive and effective preparation to start filling this space, which is really dangerous for us, and do it as soon as possible,” Cubilyus said.
He added that he will hold a video conference on this project with the Eastern European defense minister and the Ukraine representative, who may share the experience of resistance to Russian invasion.
“I returned from Kyiv two days ago, and we talked to the government and the industry … They voluntarily shared their experience and knew,” the official mentioned.
According to Cubilyus, negotiations are in the initial phase, but it represents the project as a combination of sensors, various weapons and jamming systems that will detect and neutralize the approaching drones.
The European Commissioner noted that it is too early to check the cost of such a system or time it will take to create it. Although, he added, some public analysis of analysts indicate that this can be done during the year.
Remember that the issue of creating “Wall of the Drones” became particularly relevant after a violation of Poland’s airspace of Russia. The European Commissioner Andris Cubilyus called for the implementation of this initiative as soon as possible. In addition, the idea is supported by Baltic countries.
At the same time, NATO said that the Eastern Guard’s mission declared by the Alliance did not provide for integration with Ukraine’s air defense system.
