The incident took place on Sunday evening June 4 at the railway station in Wenglinice in Lower Silesia.
This is reported by the Polish edition of O2.pl.
Traces of the robbery were discovered by employees of the Railway Guard, who noticed the absence of seals on the container of one of the cars.
The railway guard does not have the authority to act in a military transport situation – such trains must be guarded by the military, so the incident was reported to the military police.
It turned out that the thieves somehow managed to steal four crates of high-explosive 155-millimeter cannon shells without being noticed by the train guards.
Subsequently, the attackers were detained – these are three men aged 26, 34 and 39 years. Now they face up to 10 years in prison.
According to the detainees, they did not know what exactly they were stealing, so when they realized that they had robbed the military, they quickly got rid of the stolen goods and threw them into the local lake.
On the morning of June 7, Polish law enforcement officers discovered these boxes. Three of them had original fillings. Another was opened, but contained the entire set of ammunition.
It is noted that the train carrying ammunition was moving from Saxony (Germany) to the Zamostye-Bortatiche railway station located near the border with Ukraine. In this regard, the Polish media suggest that it could be ammunition destined for Ukraine.
