26 settlements of the occupied part of the Kherson region, where more than 42 thousand people live, are in the flood zone.
The explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station is being investigated by 10 investigative and operational groups, consisting of employees of the SBU and the National Police. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
It was noted that 40 protocols were created based on the results of the evaluations of open sources. Some questions are also sent to state bodies and services. Law enforcement officials are cleaning up flooded areas. In particular, surveys of five places of events were carried out with the help of a quadrocopter – in the observation zone there were four critical infrastructure facilities in Kherson. These are related to water supply and drainage.
As stated in the Office of the Prosecutor General, as a result of the damage of the dam, an uncontrolled release of water occurred with an increase in its level in the lower part of the Dnieper River up to 12 m. 26 settlements of the de-occupied part of the Kherson region, where more than 42 thousand people live, are in the flood zone. At the same time, there is no exact information about the state of the man-made disaster in the occupied part of the Kherson region.
The population is being evacuated from the flooded areas. At the same time, the Russians are sacking the communities where the evacuation is taking place.
Flooding of the territories of the coastal zone of the lower part of the Dnieper River can lead to an ecological disaster. Due to the damage, the entire Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was under water, the machine shop was damaged, and turbine oil entered the water.
In addition, a sharp drop in the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir may lead to disruption of the Zaporizhzhya NPP cooling system.
Also, due to flooding, the operation of the North Crimean and Kakhovskoye canals will be impossible after the resumption of control of the left bank part of the Kherson region until the restoration of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
The pollution and unsuitable for agricultural activities of a large area of fertile land is full of food security.
And due to the failure of the sewer and drainage system as a result of the flooding, a large number of the civilian population will lose water and electricity.
The Office of the Attorney General said the destruction of the dams was a war crime. Such actions can be equated with the use of weapons of mass destruction.
To recall, NSDC Secretary Alexei Danilov said that the Russian military blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station at the direction of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The invaders blew up the dam in anticipation of a Ukrainian counter-offensive. In addition, before the explosion, they raised the water level at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
