Illegal felling of trees was carried out without environmental impact assessment under the pretext of sanitary felling.
The director and chief forester of one of the subsidiary forestry enterprises in the Chernihiv region is suspected of illegal cutting of trees. This was announced on June 7 by the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office.
The investigation found that since the beginning of April 2020, the director of one of the subsidiary forestry enterprises of the region, by prior agreement with subordinate employees, without having reached a conclusion on the environmental impact assessment, has -organize the illegal removal of trees in the forest area of The Chernihiv region under the pretext of clear sanitary felling rather than the cause of environmental damage in the amount of more than 39 million Hryvnia.
He and the chief forester were informed of the suspicion of illegal cutting of trees in the forest, carried out by a group of people by prior agreement, which caused serious consequences for the environment (part 4 of article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The issue of confiscation of the suspects’ property is being resolved to further ensure compensation for the damage caused.
It was previously reported that a large-scale scheme of illegal logging and timber sales was exposed in the Kyiv region.
