Ukraine has invited international assistance from the EU in the form of equipment and machinery to provide assistance.
The European Union has activated a civil protection mechanism to help Ukraine in connection with the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and is sending the necessary equipment and machinery. This was reported on the website of the European Commission on Wednesday, June 7.
It is indicated that while the evacuation of the affected population is underway, Ukraine has asked the EU for international assistance in the form of equipment and machinery to provide assistance.
“In response, the EU is already sending aid through its civil protection mechanism thanks to initial offers from Germany, Austria and Lithuania. Germany offered 5,000 water filters and 56 generators, Austria offered of 20 water containers and ten mud water pumps, which are now being sent to Ukraine.In addition, Lithuania and Germany are also offering accommodation equipment, including tents, beds and blankets.
The EU Emergency Response Coordination Center is in direct contact with Ukrainian emergency services to monitor exact needs on the ground and is ready to coordinate additional assistance to Ukraine based on evolving needs.
“At the same time, the EU Humanitarian Office in Ukraine is coordinating with its humanitarian partners to rapidly respond to the needs of flood victims, including by providing food and drinking water assistance,” the EC added .
As you know, on the night of June 6, the Russians blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. The destruction caused widespread flooding. About 80 communities are under the threat of flooding. Now there is a mass evacuation of the population.
