Xi Jinping ordered engineers and scientists to drill a deep well to explore the planet.

In China, in the Taklimakan desert, an ultra-deep well will be drilled to study the planet. Its depth will reach more than 11 thousand meters. Drilling began on Wednesday, May 31, reports Xinhua news agency.

The report emphasized that the project is supported by Chinese President Xi Jinping himself.

The hole will be so deep that it will reach deposits that were formed 145 million years ago.

Technical expert Wang Chunsheng, commenting on the start of work, said that the drilling of such a well is “a bold attempt to explore unknown areas of the Earth.”

Sun Jinsheng, a Chinese Academy of Engineering scientist, suggested the project would require complex decisions and compared drilling to driving a truck over two thin steel cables.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is on an undisclosed visit to Beijing.

It can be recalled that Ukrnafta is studying the possibility of restoring oil production in about 500 wells.
