The President of France believes that otherwise he would have no one to talk to.
Russian President Vladimir Putin should not be arrested if he turns out to be the only person who will need to negotiate peace in Ukraine. This is what French President Emmanuel Macron said, according to The Guardian.
“If in a few months we will have a window for negotiations, we will have to choose between the court and negotiations, and we must negotiate with the de facto leaders. I believe that negotiations will be the priority,” the The French leader stressed.
According to Macron, Russia has lost any legitimacy, but if the future Ukrainian counter-offensive does not achieve its military goals, the nature of future European support for Ukraine needs to be assessed. At the same time, he noted that Ukraine protects not only its own borders, but also European ones.
As you know, in March, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an international arrest warrant for Putin.
We will remind, Macron previously said that Putin “awakened” NATO with the strongest “electric shock”, starting a war against Ukraine.
On May 15, the presidents of Ukraine and France signed a joint declaration of support for Ukraine, including its transition to NATO.
