Greece’s president dissolves ‘two-day’ parliament

The situation was caused by the fact that no party received an absolute majority. Early elections will be held on June 25.

Greek President Ekaterina Sakellaropoulou issued a decree dissolving Parliament and officially calling elections for June 25. This was reported on May 29 by the newspaper Ekathimerini.

According to the decision of the head of state, the new parliament will meet on July 3.

The decree was also signed by Interim Acting Prime Minister Ioannis Sarmas and members of the Provisional Cabinet.

According to the publication, this is the second time Greece has had a “two-day” parliament since the restoration of democracy in 1974. The first was the result of elections in May 2012, which also failed to form a government.

Remember that on May 21 parliamentary elections were held in Greece. On May 28, 300 elected representatives were sworn in, but none of the political forces formed a majority.

It was earlier reported that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced the dissolution of parliament amid the Socialist Workers Party’s election defeat.
