The Ukrainian government has requested the purchase of the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system for $285 million.
The United States has agreed to sell Ukraine the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system and related equipment for $285 million. The corresponding document was approved by the US State Department, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense.
The government of Ukraine has requested the purchase of a national perspective anti-aircraft missile system NASAMS, which includes:
-
an AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel radar;
-
Fire Distribution Center (FDC);
-
launchers;
-
GPS receivers;
-
tool kits;
-
prime movers;
-
technical support for the US government and contractors.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by enhancing the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic development in Europe,” said statement.
The State Department noted that Ukraine urgently needs to increase its capabilities to protect against Russian missile and aviation strikes. Procuring and effectively deploying this capability will enhance Ukraine’s ability to protect its people and critical national infrastructure.
Recall that the US-Norwegian NASAMS system has been in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine for six months. During this period, Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners destroyed more than a hundred Russian missiles and drones. In some attacks on Russia, NASAMS shows efficiency at the level of 100%.
