Putin was reported on the “attempt to break through,” his spokesman Peskov said. He called it “Ukrainian sabotage”, the purpose of which is “to divert attention from the Bakhmut direction.” According to Peskov, Russian forces are trying to reject and destroy the saboteurs.
The Main Intelligence Directorate calls the events in the region an operation to create a “security strip” conducted by citizens of the Russian Federation from the Legion “Freedom of Russia” and the “Russian Volunteer Corps”.
Recall that on the morning of May 22, a sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine penetrated the territory of the Grayvoron urban district of the Belgorod region. Moscow Governor of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov said:
The Russian Armed Forces, together with the border service, the National Guard and the FSB, are taking the necessary measures to eliminate the enemy.
Russian and Ukrainian telegram channels previously reported that on Monday morning, soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly broke into the border town of Graivoronsky urban district, as a result of which fighting began in the area of the settlements of Dronovka, Glotovo, Kozinka and Gora-Podil. It was reported that a Ukrainian tank drove into the territory of the Grayvoron checkpoint. This information has not been confirmed.
A source from the Russian state propaganda TV channel RT reported that “Ukrainian saboteurs are infatuated with a cultural center in the village of Gora-Podil.” It was alleged that the attackers were cordoned off.
At first, Gladkov did not confirm reports of saboteurs in the border villages, declaring a “massive information attack” on the region. The governor said that the attack was taking place “against the background of a massive shelling of the Grayvoronsky district”, as a result of which none of the civilians were injured or killed. Later, he said that two local residents were injured as a result of the shelling of Glotov.
On the morning of May 22, the telegram channel of the Freedom of Russia legion appeared to the Russians with the words “The Legion is returning home”:
Residents of the border regions! Stay at home, do not resist and do not be afraid: we are not your enemies, the legion said.
The legion also published a photo of white-blue-white flags flying “over the liberated cities.”
Around 14.00, the legion reported that, together with the Russian Volunteer Corps, it had completely dismissed the settlement of Kozinka in the Belgorod Region, and forward detachments entered Grayvoron.
