Germany is preparing the largest defense aid package for Ukraine since the start of a full-scale Russian invasion.
It is reported by “European Truth” with reference to Spiegel.
Berlin plans to strengthen the ground forces of Ukraine through the supply of armored vehicles, as well as to modernize the air defense.
The military assistance package will include tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, howitzers and air defense systems with missiles for them.
The publication, citing German government sources, reported that in the coming months, Germany intends to provide Ukraine with military assistance in the amount of about 2.7 billion euros.
This is the largest support package Germany has provided to boost Ukraine’s defense forces since the start of a full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022.
According to the publication, this package provides for the transfer of 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles and 30 Leopard 1 tanks, 18 wheeled howitzers, the transfer of which was announced in 2022.
The air defense of Ukraine is planned to be strengthened by four German IRIS-T-SLM air defense systems, 12 IRIS-T-SLS launchers and hundreds of guided missiles for this system.
Germany also plans to help with reconnaissance of enemy positions and will transfer up to 200 reconnaissance drones for this.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine and transport will receive: 100 protected combat vehicles designed to transport troops to the front and more than 100 logistic support vehicles.
This military aid package may be announced as early as May 14 during the presentation of the Charlemagne Prize to Volodymyr Zelensky.
