Volodymyr Zelenskyy intends to meet with the President and Prime Minister of Italy, as well as with the Pope. More details are not disclosed.
This is reported by the Italian news agencies Ansa and Adnkronos, as well as the authoritative newspaper Corriere della Sera. The press service of the President of Italy has not yet officially confirmed the information about the visit.
Earlier it was also reported that Zelensky may meet with Italian Prime Minister Georgia Maloney and Pope Francis during a trip to Rome. It is possible that on the same weekend the President of Ukraine will also arrive in Germany, where on Sunday in Aachen they are going to present him with the Charlemagne Prize.
Recall that earlier in the German media there was information about the visit of the President of Ukraine to Germany on these dates. But due to the disclosure of classified information, the visit fell through, and the Berlin police launched an investigation due to information leakage.
Earlier, Pope Francis said that the Vatican was taking part in some kind of behind-the-scenes mission to bring peace to Ukraine. Representatives of Ukraine stated that they knew nothing about this mission.
Francis, 86, has repeatedly called for an end to the war and expressed his willingness to visit Russia and Ukraine. He also met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmigal and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban (the latter is known as one of the few European politicians who maintain ties with Moscow).
At the same time, some criticized the pontiff for not directly and categorically condemning the actions of Russia, which launched an invasion of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian authorities were also dissatisfied with the general participation of representatives of Ukraine and Russia in one of the prayer services before Easter in Rome.
