The Times notes that the former high-ranking Moldovan official, who now lives in London, “is focused on a network of Kremlin puppets at one center.”
The former top Moldovan police officer, now based in London, is recruiting “military forces” to overthrow the government in Chisinau and put Moldova under Russian control. This was stated by the British edition of The Times in connection with a report submitted by a group of Moldovan and British lawyers to the British Foreign Office.
The accusations concern Georgy Cavkalyuk, the former deputy head of the General Inspectorate of Police during the time of the former pro-Russian President of Moldova, Igor Dodon.
Chisinau applied to London with a request to extradite Kavkalyuk. The demand was outlined by campaigners who have asked Britain to freeze his assets using the British sanctions regime.
Moldova placed Cavkalyuk on the international wanted list on charges of making charges against party members Platform Dignity and Truth (DA) Ruslan Verbitsky and Georgy Petik.
Cavkalyuk is now in London, where he heads the Moldovan political party We are building Europe at home (RACE) and published his photos during the coronation of King Charles III and in Liverpool on the eve of Eurovision.
According to him, these accusations are “outdated and do not correspond to the truth.”
The document seeking sanctions against him alleges that he was at the center of a well-coordinated network of Kremlin puppets, led by the Russian security service FSB and its mercenary group. Wagner.
Tobias Elvwood, head of the British Parliament’s defense committee, said he was “dismayed” that the police chief had not been extradited back to Moldova.
“For many years, London has had a reputation as a safe haven for Eastern European oligarchs, often with close ties to Putin. This is finally changing after Ukraine, but I met with the Moldovan president three times in the presence of a senior Foreign Ministry official and this extradition request was discussed. If we are serious about supporting European democracy, because it is not limited to Ukraine alone,” he explained.
Recall that in early February of this year, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia had developed a plan to destroy the political situation in Moldova.
