The previous day, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree introducing the celebration of Europe Day on May 9 in Ukraine. The head of state also submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada proposing to make May 8 the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War.
Also on the night of May 9, the Russian army attacked the territory of Ukraine with sea and air cruise missiles. Ukrainian defenders destroyed 23 out of 25 enemy targets. At the same time, in the Kyiv area, the air defense destroyed about 15 air targets.
