This visit will open a new page in Ukraine’s relations with Latin American countries and strengthen cooperation in the Global South, the Foreign Minister said.
Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba visited Guatemala, where he will participate in the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States. The Foreign Minister announced this on Instagram on Tuesday, May 9.
“The best way to spend Europe Day … is to go to Latin America to open new horizons for European Ukraine,” Kuleba wrote.
He added that at the invitation of the Foreign Minister of Guatemala, Mario Bucaro Flores, he will participate in the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and make a bilateral visit.
“This trip is historic for three reasons. The first visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to Guatemala. The first participation in the ACG Council of Ministers. The first visit of the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to Latin America in 10 years ,” said the minister.
Kuleba informed that the ACG is 25 Caribbean countries. It is an important region with significant resources and is interested in Ukrainian goods, the experience of government digitalization and mutually beneficial political cooperation with international organizations.
The minister added that his visit to Latin America is part of the Foreign Ministry’s course to open new horizons for Ukraine, domestic business and citizens. It will open a new page in Ukraine’s relations with Latin American countries and strengthen cooperation in the Global South.
Recall that Guatemala was the first country in Latin America to support a special tribunal investigating Russian crimes.
And in the summer of last year, the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammatte, visited the cities of the Kyiv region, the cities of the Kiev region that suffered from the Russian invasion.
