The US presidential administration is happy to hear that Republican McCarthy supports large-scale aid to Ukraine.
The White House welcomes the statement of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Kevin McCarthy, about the need for additional large-scale support for Ukraine. This is the comment of White House Speaker Karine Jean-Pierre in the speech of the leader of the lower house of the US Congress, Voice of America reports.
“We are pleased to hear that Speaker McCarthy agrees that continued support for Ukraine is important. It is good to hear how he rejected the propaganda spread by the Russian state media,” Jean-Pierre said.
He recalled that over the past year, President Biden has rallied the world in support of Ukraine, which is opposed to Russian aggression. And the broad bipartisan support shown by the US Congress is critical to this effort.
“It’s important that this support continues, and we’re certainly happy to hear that from Speaker McCarthy,” a White House spokesman said.
In this way, he commented on McCarthy’s response to a Russian journalist, recalling the statement of the speaker of the House of Representatives that the United States should not issue “unlimited checks” to Ukraine, and tried to give stress that McCarthy allegedly did not support the supply of weapons to Kiev. McCarthy quickly responded to the reporter, rejecting his interpretation of her statement.
“No, I voted for helping Ukraine. I support helping Ukraine. I don’t support what your country did to Ukraine. I also don’t support you killing children.”
McCarthy also pledged continued US support for Ukraine.
Earlier, McCarthy spoke out against “unlimited checks” on aid to Ukraine, and also declined President Zelensky’s invitation to visit Ukraine.
