The new aid package includes 155mm howitzer cannons, HIMARS and Howitzer cannon ammunition, TOW anti-tank missiles and mortars. For the first time, the United States will transfer Hydra 70 short-range missiles to Ukraine.
It was noted that the Hydra 70 missiles could help Ukraine weaken Russian ground forces and provide air support to Ukrainian ground forces during a counteroffensive.
Sources in the White House also said that the list of weapons could change.
The aid package will be funded by the Presidential Drawdown Authority, which provides that the President of the United States in times of emergency can transfer American weapons without the approval of Congress.
