The confiscation of the cargo became an escalation between Washington and Tehran, after which Iran seized the oil tanker.
The US seized Iranian oil from a tanker at sea in recent days as part of a sanctions enforcement operation. On Saturday, April 29, Reuters reported.
While oil markets remain volatile, the seizure of the cargo is the latest escalation between Washington and Tehran after years of pressure from US sanctions over Iran’s nuclear program.
It was noted that a few days later, Iran seized another oil tanker in retaliation.
Iran does not recognize the sanctions and their oil exports are growing. Maritime security company Ambrey said the US seizure took place at least five days before Iran’s action.
“Ambrey assessed the Iranian Navy’s acquisition in response to US actions,” the company said.
On April 27, Iran reportedly seized an oil tanker flying the Marshall Islands flag in the Gulf of Oman. According to the US Navy, the seizure of this tanker by Iran is at least the fifth case in the past two years.
It will be remembered that two years ago, many attacks on tankers took place in the Arabian Sea, for which the world community blamed Iran. Tehran has denied any involvement. But such cases have happened.
