Ukraine’s potential NATO membership poses a “huge security risk” to Russia, Dmitry Peskov believes.
The aggressor country Russia does not intend to allow Ukraine to join NATO. This is one of the main goals of the so-called NVO, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing on Thursday, April 20.
“Absolutely, because otherwise, it would pose a serious, significant threat to the security of our country,” he said, answering a related question.
Commenting on the current visit of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to Kyiv, Peskov pointed out that in this regard, the Kremlin has no assessments of the prospects for Ukraine’s entry into the Alliance.
“No, there are no assessments of prospects in the Kremlin,” he said.
It should be noted that Ukraine has record support for NATO membership. Only 3% of the population opposes such a prospect.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was not for Russia to decide how Ukraine could exercise its sovereign rights, including regarding NATO membership.
