The Americans “seriously cut off the branch on which they were sitting,” the Russian minister believes.
In global trade, an irreversible trend has reportedly begun to abandon the use of the dollar in mutual settlements in favor of national currencies. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Russian media reported on Friday, April 14.
“The flight from the dollar is starting now, it is not yet very fast, but it will definitely accelerate. This trend is irreversible,” Lavrov said at a press conference following his visit to Uzbekistan.
In his opinion, “Americans have seriously cut off the branch on which they sit, managing international finance and the world economy as a whole, using the dominant role of the dollar.”
Earlier in Russia, they announced a “loss of confidence” in the dollar, and at the same time in the euro and pound. The head of the Russian Ministry of Finance, Anton Siluanov, believes that all these currencies are “a completely unreliable instrument.”
Meanwhile, the US believes that neither Russia nor China can avoid dealing with the dollar.
