The Ministry of Health explained what the introduction of e-prescription means

The leadership of Ukrainian medicine explained what the introduction of an e-prescription means. The Ministry of Health reported that a paper prescription will be valid, over-the-counter medicines will continue to be bought in pharmacies.

An e-prescription is entered as an additional document and will only be required for a prescription drug. The Ministry of Health does not change the list and conditions for dispensing medicines. All drugs that were previously subject to prescription by a doctor can now be purchased not only with a paper prescription, but also with an electronic prescription.

To receive an electronic prescription, a declaration with a family doctor is not required. Any doctor who is responsible for your care can write a prescription for a prescription drug.

During the transitional period during martial law, pharmacies are required to use both electronic and paper prescriptions.

It will still be possible to get a recommendation from a pharmacist for OTC alternatives to prescription drugs.

During martial law, pharmacies will continue to sell prescription drugs without the need for a prescription.

This is provided for by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of May 7, 2022 No. The exception is medicines containing narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, etc.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that since April 1, the list of prescription drugs remains unchanged, but there is a new opportunity to get prescription drugs using an e-prescription.

A May ruling that allowed prescription drugs to be sold without a prescription during martial law was lifted in August.

Minister Viktor Lyashko said that in May, given the war and the rather chaotic state, the ministry completely removed the prescription for all medicines. A few months later, when the logistics of pharmacy chains improved, the decision was canceled. That is, now 60% of medicines are sold by prescription – as before February 24.

But the Ministry of Health has added a new service. From April 1, it will be possible to get medicines in pharmacies not only with paper prescriptions, but also with electronic prescriptions. The sale of medicines without prescriptions is allowed only in the occupied territories or where hostilities are taking place.
