Staff at a detention center where 39 migrants died in a fire in Mexico’s Ciudad Juarez did nothing to evacuate those people, they said on Wednesday. Attorney General.
At a press conference, the leader Specialized Public Prosecutor for Human RightsSarah Irene Herrerias, pointed out that the officials of this unit did not take any action to rescue the migrants.
“None of the civil servants or private security officers took any action to open the door to the migrants who were already inside with the fire,” he said.
Identify alleged perpetrators
Similarly, Rosa’s security minister, Isela Rodríguez, indicated that eight people have been identified to date as allegedly responsible for this omission.
These are two federal agents and a state immigration agent, as well as five employees of a private security company.
The prosecutor announced that four arrest warrants would be asked from judges this Wednesday and clarified that the death of the migrants was being investigated as an alleged murder.
“The case of murder and damage to other people’s property was initiated, but, according to the investigation, other crimes will be analyzed,” Herrerias said.
He added that the alleged perpetrators are “already making statements” to the prosecutor’s office.
The Minister of Security adjusted the death toll from 38 to 39 last Monday evening. There are also 27 injuries reported, of which six are “extremely serious”, ten are “severe” and nine are “delicate”.
