The decision to transfer 12 aircraft was approved by the country’s General Staff. Now the government must approve.
The General Staff of North Macedonia agreed to the transfer of Mi-24 helicopters to Ukraine. This was said on March 25 by the Minister of Defense of the country Slavyanka Petrovskaya in an interview with the Alsat TV channel.
He clarified that Skopje is ready to transfer 12 Mi-24 helicopters to Kyiv, and plans to buy new Western models.
Petrovskaya emphasized that all the equipment already received by Ukraine is well used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“This is the equipment, which, according to our plans, is nearing the end of its service life,” added the minister.
According to him, the transfer of helicopters to Ukraine will not weaken Macedonia’s defense capabilities, as some of them have not been used for some time.
At the moment, the decision on the transfer was made by the General Staff, now the issue must be considered by the government of North Macedonia.
As Militarny writes, Skopje will hand over 12 Mi-24s it bought from Ukraine in 2001.
Earlier, North Macedonia confirmed the transfer of four Su-25 attack aircraft to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
