Relive the adrenaline of four series arcs. Already with its 25 years of publication, One Piece has finally entered its final saga. Regardless of how the manga ends, we will always remember the best moments from over two decades of adventures. One Piece Odyssey is a new turn-based RPG that invests in this, recalling the main parts of the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey.
game style
Odyssey tries to be a simple and traditional RPG while putting some different ideas into its battle system. The fights are in the good old scheme of shifts, however each character stands in a different place in the arena, fighting his own opponents.
You control one character at a time, and whoever defeats the opponent can join those who are still battling. Different types of moves work better against certain enemies, and then it’s up to you to plot the best possible one-on-one fights.
types of battles
There is also a chance of a “dramatic scene” in the middle of the fight, where some special condition happens to a character and the group gains a bonus if they meet the objective. They are events that have to do with each one, like Sanji having to win the battle in the next shift because he’s surrounded by women and can’t concentrate. There are also joint attacks depending on the formation in battle.
Greatest reason in history
O game recalls the four major pre-Wano One Piece arcs (which weren’t even close to being finished while the game was being made): Alabasta, Water 7, Marineford, and Dressrossa. Only, instead of simply recreating the stories As they happened, there’s a bigger reason that opens up possibilities: the Straw Hat crew is shipwrecked on a strange island where a girl uses her powers to steal people’s skills. She steals those from the gang, and they need to get them back by traversing an illusory world, created from their own memories, called… Memoria.
in-game challenges
And it’s in Memoria that the gang goes through the aforementioned arches – it’s kind of weird to see Luffy & co. with their post-time skip clothes in Alabasta, but that’s what happens. They will face the same villains as before and the stories are basically the same in Alabasta and Water 7 – after all, the group wants to repeat the happy endings.
Marineford already has a certain resounding event that makes Luffy fight with all his strength to have a different result, even in a world that is not real. Can he make it? This time, he will have the help of all his teammates to win.
Even with the somewhat humble look, which for some reason is a trademark of games of One Piece, Odyssey is one of the few games based on the franchise that tries something a little more sophisticated and with above average quality.
