The UN Mission’s report refers to the arbitrary executions of up to 25 Russian and 15 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine presented a report expressing its concern about “arbitrary executions” of up to 25 Russian and 15 Ukrainian prisoners of war. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
“We are deeply concerned by the arbitrary executions we recorded of up to 25 Russian prisoners of war and people who stopped participating in the war by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This often happened immediately after capture on the battlefield. Although it is known we Ukrainian authorities have launched investigations into five cases, covering 22 victims, we have no data on any court proceedings,” said Matilda Bogner, head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU).
According to him, almost half of the 229 Russian prisoners of war, with whom the Mission spoke, spoke about “mistreatment of them.”
“Regarding the treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war, we are also deeply concerned about the arbitrary executions of 15 Ukrainian prisoners of war after they were captured by the Russian Armed Forces. Wagner’s military PMCs carried out 11 of these executions,” Bogner said.
According to the report, of the 203 Ukrainian prisoners of war interviewed, 67% fell into the hands of the Russians after the commanders agreed to surrender.
Recall that a video appeared on the Web, where the Russian military shot an unarmed Ukrainian prisoner of war after his words “Glory to Ukraine.”
The Ukrainians announced a monetary reward for the names of the killers of the captured soldier.
