Finnish President signs law on country’s accession to NATO

The President of Finland signed the law on the country’s accession to NATO.

Last Friday, Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkey was starting the process of ratifying Finland’s membership in the Alliance. The parliamentary session, which will take decisions, should take place this Friday or Saturday.

Another country that has not yet ratified Finland’s NATO membership is Hungary. They should vote for it on March 27 during the spring session of parliament.

Finnish President Sauli Niinostiio does not believe that Sweden will face security problems if Finland joins NATO before her, AP reports.

The security situation in Sweden will not be threatened even if Finland joins NATO first, he said.

The North Atlantic Alliance will more than double its border with Russia by 1,300 kilometers after Finland joins it, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on March 22 during a briefing.

Putin invaded Ukraine with the stated goal of having less NATO in Europe. He does the opposite. There will be more NATO in Europe, as evidenced by the fact that both Finland and Sweden have applied for and received an invitation to become full members, Stoltenberg said.
