The Chinese leader must urge Russia to stop invading Ukraine if he is to play a constructive role in the conflict.
During the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, US authorities saw no signs of an early end to the war in Ukraine. This was said by the coordinator for strategic communications of the National Security Council at the White House, John Kirby, Sky News reports.
“We haven’t seen anything that Xi and Putin have said that would make us believe that the war in Ukraine is coming to an end,” he said.
Kirby added that he would not call the Russia-China relationship an alliance, adding that it is clear that “both countries want the world to play by their rules.”
The White House also stressed that Xi must urge Russia to stop invading Ukraine if it wants to play any constructive role in the conflict.
According to Kirby, compliance with the UN charter means that Russia must withdraw from all of Ukraine.
Remember, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is not opposed to using points from China’s so-called “peace plan” to resolve the war in Ukraine.
At the same time, the United States called China’s “peace plan” an attempt to stop the war in Ukraine.
