The area of the specially protected natural area exceeds the island state of Malta, the journalists said.

Ordinary Russians are banned from visiting half of Lake Valdai, allegedly for “environmental” reasons. However, on its shores are the residences of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his likely mistress Alina Kabaeva. In particular, access is now closed to an area of 36,000 hectares, or 316 km², which is larger than the area of Malta. This is related to the information of the official website of the Valdai National Park in the Novgorod region, according to the publication Meduza on Friday, March 17.

The decree of the Ministry of Natural Resources was signed on November 11, 2022. However, this document was published only on January 18, 2023. It spoke about the expansion of a special protected natural area (SPNA) within park boundaries.

Lake Valdai is divided into two parts by islands, located in the middle. The residences of Putin and Kabaeva are located in the reach of Dolgoborodsky, they are located there.

In early March, their territory became a specially protected natural area and it is strictly forbidden to visit these lands.

For violation of the rules of protected areas, administrative responsibility is given. For individuals, these are fines of up to four thousand rubles, for legal entities – up to 500 thousand rubles.

PAs marked in red

It will be remembered that earlier journalists found out that Putin uses an armored train for long-distance travel to his residences, which he has been using since 2021.
