The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President and war criminal Vladimir Putin.

The ISS announced that the way suspected of committing a crime is the illegal forced transfer of Ukrainian children. The court also issued an arrest warrant for Russia’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova.

The ISS is now requesting the States parties to the Rome Statute to arrest and bring the persons before the courts. In turn, the country that received the request should take these measures without delay.

In Ukraine and Russia, they reacted to the warrants for the arrest of Russian President Putin and the children’s ombudswoman Lvovo-Belova.

This means that outside of Russia, Putin must be arrested and brought to trial. And world leaders will think three times before crushing his hand or sitting down at the negotiating table with him,” said Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.

The decisions of the ISS have no meaning for our country, in particular, from a legal point of view. Russia is not a party to the Rome Charter and does not bear obligations under it. Russia does not cooperate with this body, and possible “recipes” for arrest will be legally null and void for us,” says Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

The judges of the International Criminal Court suspect Putin of a war crime – the illegal deportation of the population, including children.

This is just the beginning, – Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, commented on the news.

Russia can arbitrarily stomp its feet and recognize the decision as “insignificant”, but there are 122 countries in the world that have adopted the Rome Charter, and now there is no way to go there.

To this day, the Rome Statute of the ISS has been signed and ratified by 122 states of the world. They are obliged to strictly comply with the decisions of the court.

Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova can be arrested on the territory of countries that have ratified the Rome Charter.

The Rome Statute is the main document of the work of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. 31 states have signed but not ratified it. Among them are Israel, Armenia, the USA and Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly denied accusations that its troops committed atrocities during the year-long invasion of its neighbor. The ISS issued an arrest warrant for Putin on suspicion of illegal deportation of children and illegal movement of people from Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

The warrants were issued on February 22 and are secret to protect the victims and witnesses, but the ISS decided to make public their very existence and the names of the perpetrators for public awareness.

Now the Russian president has the official status of a suspect in an international crime – the illegal deportation and displacement of Ukrainian children.

To date, 16,226 children are known to have been deported, but the numbers may be higher, Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets said.
