Slovakia send to Ukraine 13 combat aircraft MiG-29 to help it “defend itself against Russia,” the government announced today, thereby joining Poland in sending this type of weapon.
“Slovakia has just approved the delivery of 13 MiG-29s to Ukraine. Promises must be kept,” said the Slovak Prime Minister, a conservative. Edward Hegeron the social network Twitter.
In this message, the head of government recalled that when the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelenskyasked him for additional military assistance, he assured her that he would do his best.
“Military assistance is the key to ensuring that Ukraine can protect itself and all of Europe from Russia”Heger indicated in his post on this social media.
In early January, Zelensky asked Slovakia to hand over Russian MiG-29 fighter jets.
Even then, Heger was ready to give a positive answer to Ukraine’s request.
“You are not only our neighbor, but also a friend. And it is in our interests and in the interests of European security to help you. We will study your request, but you can count on our help,” the Slovak politician said at the time. .

Slovakia has a flotilla of 14 fighters MiG-29but he hasn’t used them since last summer due to a lack of maintenance on the devices by a Russian organization.
These fighters were supposed to be in service until 2024, when the delivery of 14 F-16 aircraft from the American manufacturer Lockheed Martin is expected.
Until then, Jas-39 Gripen fighter jets from the Czech Air Force will monitor Slovak airspace.
Slovakia is a member NATO since 2004.
Poland announced yesterday that it would send four MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in the “coming days” to support the country in its fight against the Russian invasion. (EFE)
