The Ukrainian language law still hinders Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s visit to Kyiv. This was said by the head of the prime minister’s office, Gergely Guyash, TASS reports.
According to him, Orban will go to Kyiv on the condition that it will help resolve differences between Hungary and Ukraine, including the issue of the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
“A trip to Kyiv will make sense if it resolves disputes between the two countries and yields tangible results,” Gouyash said, adding that “just a demonstrative goal is not enough.”
He recalled the need to enable ethnic Hungarians to pursue education in their own language.
“The Ukrainian language law contradicts all the principles of the European Union, and this in itself is an obstacle to the visit,” the head of the prime minister’s office stressed.
Remember, earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Petr Szijarto said that Viktor Orban’s visit to Kyiv is being prepared.
The Hungarian prime minister received an invitation to visit the capital of Ukraine during a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the EU summit in Brussels on February 9.
Orban has not been to Kyiv since Russia’s full-scale invasion began. In November 2022, Hungarian President Katalin Nowak visited the Ukrainian capital.
